The story about Ichi-ryu-man-bai-bi.

Since the mid summer, I had been mildly looking for a new wallet. I wasn’t eagerly looking for it, but I was sort of checking along when I was in town. About a month ago, the one in the picture just popped into my eyes and instinctively I thought this was the one. I left the location with the wallet in my mind, did all my chores, had lunch, and came back to the spot where I found the wallet, check it thoroughly and took it home with me.

夏頃から新しい財布を新調したく、決まったデザインは無いのですが、何処かへ出かけた際には、それとなく、いい物は無いかなぁと探していました。そして、別の用事に行ってた出先でこれと思う物を発見。衝動買いはあまりよろしくないと思い、財布の事を頭の片隅に置きつつ、用事、お昼を済ませ、再び財布を見に。人いりにチェック後、購入。

The final push that made me purchase the wallet was the day I found it. In Japan there are auspicious days for renewing your wallet and I googled to check those days, the day I bumped into the wallet happened to be a lucky day. This day in Japan is called Ichi-ryu-man-bai-bi (一粒万倍日) which roughly translates to, from one seed, the harvest will be thousands. As you can imagin with its name, anything which you start on this day, the outcome will be multiplied into thousands. I haven’t check deeply into exactly where these dates came from but it’s definitely related to the ancient Japanese lunar calendar.

最終的に決め手の一つになったのはたまたまその日が一粒万倍日だったから。次の一粒万倍日っていつだろうと何気にググって見たら、なんとまぁ、財布を見つけた日がズバリその日で有った。これもご縁と思い購入。

On the Ichi-ryu-man-bai-bi, it’s good to, renew (or purchase) a new wallet, for starting day of you new job, a opening day of your business, to make a new bank account, buy a lottery, to invest and getting married. I will write down these dates so you can mark your calendar!

As you can see the dates are not the same every year, because it’s goes by the lunar calendar (28 days per month cycle) . Springtime is also said to be good for changing your wallet, Spring (春）in Japanese pronounce as Haru which sound as same as “to fatten”, “to get thicken” so they say that when you change the wallet in springtime your wallet will get thicker (=richer).

一粒万倍日は旧暦から来たと言う事で毎年同じ月の同じ日に来るわけでは無い。でも先人達はこれらの日をベースに一年の行事を計画していたのですね。春も財布を新調するのに良いとされているので、（春＝張る）春あたりの一粒万倍日を狙うのも良い。

Also there is another day to consider lucky in Japan which is called Ten-sha-nichi （天赦日）. This day is suppose to be the luckiest day in the Ancient Japanese calendar, and in the myth, they say that on this day, all the god and goddess ascend to the heaven and on the way, they take all the earthly sin with them to be forgiven! When the Ten-sha-nichi and the Ichi-ryu-man-bai-bi lands on the same day its suppose to be a day charged with luck!! This date is marked above in bolded fonts but just in case I’ll write it down : Jan 6 2023, Mar 21 2023 and Aug 4 2023. As you can see Mar 21 2023 happens to be Spring equinox so lets plan something great on this day!

あと、もう一つのラッキーデー天赦日ってのも有りますね。天赦日は、日本の暦の上で最高の吉日と言われています。この日はすべての神様が天に昇り、天が万物の罪を赦（ゆる）す日とされ、この日に始めたことはすべて成功すると言われています。素晴らしい。そしてこの天赦日と一粒万倍日が重なる日がスーパーパワフルデーとされていて、上のリストで太字で書かれて日にちがそうです。念の為にその日は１月６日、３月２１日と８月４日。３月２１日は春分の日でも有るので、この日は是非何か良いことを始めなくてはですね！カレンダーに丸印を。

A little note about this beautiful wallet.

I won’t buy a thing if its just because it was a lucky day. The product itself have to be something I’ve been looking for too. This wallet is by a Japanese brand name Liberte. Liberte means freedom in French and the brands motto is to make something unique with freedom.

ただ単に、縁起が良いと言う理由だけではもちろん財布は買わないですよ。気に入ったから買った訳ですが、こちらの財布リベルテと言う日本のブランドの物です。リベルテってフランス語で自由。自由な発想での物作りがブランドコンセプトだとか。

This wallet opens up in one L shaped zip and with the whole view of the interior. The wallet itself is rather thin but yet magically everything fits in it.

財布のデザインはL字ジッパー型。ジッパーを開けると中が一望出来ます。マチは無く、ポケットが沢山有るだけのシンプル構造。

I spend years minimalize the stuff I put in my wallet and as my wallet became more emptier, I had an urge to renew my wallet to fit the content. Carrying heavy wallet was always a stress but yet I couldn’t got out with just one credit card, the picture above are the things in my wallet. 1 credit card, 3 id cards, 4 amulets (LOL), some cash, some coupons, some supermarket & bookshop & wine & coffee & tea & etc cards. All these are neatly placed in my new wallet (Picture above).

私は何年もかけて少しづつ財布の中身の軽量化をして来ました。そして今年に入って、使っていた財布がちょっとブカブカな感じになり、大きくてかさばるし、もうちょっと小ぶりな物を探していたのです。小さな名刺入れ見たいな財布でこなす人もいますが、私はまだ無理。

タイではキャッシュレス可が進んでいて、クレジットカードですら使えない所が多い（特に田舎）決算方法がほぼアプリ。。。。なんでアプリ？かと聞いてみると、カードの手数料が高く、銀行のアプリを使えば手数料なしで決算が出来るから。どうやってこんなに普及したのと聞くと、コロナ禍でデリバリーの注文が中心となり、ウーバー的な注文の決算がアプリ経由だからどのお店もスマホ的な端末がレジ代わり。物売り（そこら辺をウロウロ歩き回る人）ですら、アプリ決算OK、驚くなかれ、ホームレスの人の首からアプリ用QRコードがぶら下がってて、アプリ経由でお金をあげることだって出来る！現金なんてもう持ち歩かないのである。だから財布もほぼ不要なのが今のタイ！　（おっと、かなり断線してしまいましたね）そんな事もあり、大きな財布がやぼったく見え、私なりにミニマルにしたかったのだ。

When you zip it up, this is how thin it gets. This thinness is simply heaven (but still trying to get rid for some more cards) .

I’ve notice my friends with this wallet and they always says don’t get tricked by its size. You won’t imagine how much this thin wallet hold all your belongings. It hold all my belonging and even left some extra space for more too !

リベルテの財布は友人に進められた事もあり、気になっていたのですが、中々現物で出会わなかった。白黒写真に写っている私物を全部入れてもまだ余裕（スベース）が有るから驚いた。あまり余計な物は増やしたくないけど、気分が上がる物？例えば大好きな人、ペット、景色の写真とかパウチして忍ばせるのも良いかもね。
