Our next destination after the “drama” LOL at the Moerenuma Park, was a little coffee shop call Morihiko. Morihiko is located in the Northwest from the city center by Mt. Maruyama. The place is a quiet neighborhood mostly residential with hip stores here and there. In the same area, there is Hokkaido Shrine so if you have some time for a walk I recommend a stroll in the Shrine too.

モエレ沼公園でのドラマ（笑）の後の行き先は森彦。森彦は札幌の中心から見て北東にあるエリアに有ります。円山公園があり近くに北海道神社が有ります。このエリアは住宅地であり、エリア内におしゃれなお店がちらほらとあるおしゃれスポットらしいです。もし、お時間があれば、北海道神社へお参りするのもおすすめです。

We drove in a narrow street and parked our car right across from the cafe. (There are 9 spaces for the cafe guest.) We arrived pass 2pm and because of the bad weather & weekday, we thought we will get the seat soon. No, that was not the case, we were 3rd in a line and had to wait a bit.

車で細い道を入ると森彦が現る。なんだ、この可愛らしさ。カフェの前に駐車場が有り、９台ほど車を止められます。到着時間は２時過ぎ。平日でお天気もイマイチだったので、すんなり入れるのだろうと思っていたが、いやいや全然、列の3組目であり、人気店なんだーと実感。

Morihiko was on Hiro’s want-to-go list. This place is very famous among the cafe goes, coffee lovers and in business for 26 years. The Shabby house is around 70 years old and this is the main branch of Morihiko (there are 11 more branches each with different concept). The house was amazingly restored with care, it was so charming.

森彦は博一の行きたい所の一つでした。モエレ沼公園の次に上げた所です。（彼は温泉以外の希望はこの二つだけでした。）ここは札幌では老舗カフェに入る所。今年で26年目だとか。色んなコンセプトで１２店舗お店があるそうで、ここ円山店は本店です。見ての通り、目玉はやはり築７０年以上の古民家。辛うじて立っている様な佇まいですが、雪が降ったらどうなっちゃうんだろう？と、ちょっと心配になっちゃうのですが、中に入るとお手入れが行き届いていて、感動です。

When you enter the store through this Noren (a cloth hanging outside which acts as a partition, screen to keep the indoor partially out of sight and a flag that represents that this store is open.) the closet size kitchen will be right in front of you. The kitchen is the smallest kitchen I have ever seen (for a cafe)! There was a counter to block us from kitchen. Only two person can fit in, standing side by side and one was busily brewing coffee.

この黄色いのれんをくぐり中へ入ると、真正面にある台所に迎えられます。台所？？カウンターが台所の内側を遮断していますが、押し入れサイズ？畳１.５程のスペースにバリスタが一人黙々とコーヒーを淹れているのです。二人入ったら、もう満杯のスペースにキビキビ働いているの。コックピット的に。もうびっくりです。最小限の道具だけで素晴らしい。

Every corner of this little haven is taken care of. Nothing flashy or new about this place but it was such a charming place to have a coffee break.

森彦はどの角度から見ても綺麗に手入れされている。決して派手でも新しさの微塵も無いのですが、そこがなんともチャーミングで札幌市民に嫉妬。（笑）

What to order at Morihiko. Their signature coffee is “Morino Shizuku”. I don’t have the picture but Hiro ordered it. I ordered “Snow White” which is their other popular choice. It’s a cup of latte made with almond milk with dash of amaretto. Their cakes are all popular but the most selling one is “gâteau au fromage” or cheesecake. On this day, I ordered their new seasonal menu “White Oshiruko with brown rice mochi”. (Oshiruko is a sweetened red bean soup but in this case it was sweetened soybean soup.)

さて、森彦に行ったならばやはり「森の雫」はマストでしょう。写真は無いのですが、博一が注文して、大満足だと。私は彼と注文を被りたくなかったので、「スノーホワイト」をオーダー。森の雫は森彦のブレンドコーヒー。スノーホワイトは、アーモンドミルクを使用したラテ。アマレットを隠し味に使っていたのかな？アーモンドリキュールの香りがプーンと。これは飲み物と言うよりデザートですね。チェンマイでアーモンドミルクラテにハマったのですが、それとはまた別物でした。チェンマイのは飲み物、森彦はデザート的な。定番のケーキメニューも気になったのですが、この季節限定の「玄米餅の白いおしるこ」がどうしても味見したくオーダー。うわぁー、想像と全然違う。いい意味で期待を裏切ってくれました。甘く味づけした豆乳の中にはお豆のアソートが沈んでいて、お餅とアラレがトッピング。一見、和風？それとも中華と思われるかもですが、洋風的なアプローチなのですよ。わー。お店の姿勢と言うはコンセプトがデザートでしっかり伝わった。ブームに惑わされないで、自分達らしいアレンジでした。

The menu of Morihiko was very simple and I can imagine with that tiny kitchen. They had several selection of coffee to choose from, teas and some cold drinks. They have around 4 choices of cakes showcased in a cooled cabinet and you can take a look of in when walking in and seasonal ones like the one I ordered. They also have a simple cheese toast it you’re a bit hungry but don’t want anything sweet. Not a lot to choose from but I find this simplicity very pleasing. Nothing flashy but just sticking to the basics.

森彦で印象的だったのはメニューのシンプルさ。本店と言う事もあり、色々あるのかなぁと、勝手に想像していたのですが、コーヒー系のドリンクは５種類、紅茶１種類とジュース１種類。デザート系はケーキが５種類入口の冷蔵ケースに置いてあり、あとはフード系はチーズトーストの一種類のみ。入口のキッチンの広さを考えたら、そりゃそうだよね的なメニュー。でも、シンプルだからこそ、その一つ一つに自信があるんだろうなぁと思いました。パッと見てクラシックな喫茶店メニューって感じ？あと、思ったのは森彦って北海道に１１店舗それぞれ違うコンセプトのお店があるので、スタイルの違いを別店舗に分類しているのかもです。
